We found the whole process to be pretty straightforward. During our initial consultation with Anthony, we were told that the process would most likely take a little longer than normal simply because we started the process just before the Christmas period. In saying that, within six weeks our first loan had been settled and our second loan settled two weeks later only because our original lender was not ready to settle any sooner. All in all pretty quick and painless, we thought.Communication throughout the process was excellent as we were kept informed of what stage of the process we were at and what was about to happen. Besides having to provide a few extra pieces of information, we had no more to do after we uploaded our initial information onto our Moorr platform.The whole process was very professional and efficient. Would highly recommend the Empower Wealth Team to anybody looking to refinance their lending.

I was a long-time fan of Ben and Bryce’s podcast, which is why I engaged the services of their company, Empower Wealth. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with their service, and don't recommend them.In short: we paid $5,500, had 4 meetings, we did a lot of runaround to collect (and pay for) other specialists’ advice, and after reviewing this information, our property advisor ultimately gave us very limited, generic advice that didn’t suit us, then we never heard from Empower Wealth again…Longer version: My partner and I are both medical. Good savings, no kids, minimal spending and jobs that move us around. We live in Brisbane and were looking for a place to live in and potentially rent out later if we had to move. We also wanted to follow Ben and Bryce’s advice - to act now, to pay for good advice, and to choose the right asset from the start. Ben and Bryce talk about the data advisors have behind their good investment choices, on location, gentrification, surrounding infrastructure and home-occupier appeal. So, we engaged a Qualified Property Investment Advisor at Empower Wealth.The first issue was that the initial meetings involved us gathering advice from other specialists to give to our advisor, before getting any advice from him. He told us to speak to a mortgage broker (which we had already done), financial advisor, insurance broker and accountant first (which all cost a further $3K). He asked us to fill in the Empower Wealth portal with all our ingoings/outgoings. Then he explored who we were and what we wanted. I asked him where/what to buy based on what he’d learned about us and the data he had: he said he couldn’t tell us, because where we want to live is a personal choice, and he recommended we go on realestate.com and domain and pick some suburbs and houses we liked. Lol, what? Like we’d already been doing? Aren’t we paying for your advice? I asked if what we wanted was buyer’s agent instead (which Empower Wealth also have), but he said no.The second and main issue was the limited advice he eventually gave, which was to buy a $1.4mil property in Melbourne, because the market growth was better there. That was literally it. We said we live and work in Brisbane, we need somewhere to live in Brisbane, but acknowledged that being from Melbourne there was always the possibility of moving back some day; based on that he continued to push buying in Melbourne. We didn’t have the time or expertise to set up a rental or IP in another state. We'd still need to pay rent in Brisbane. We didn’t know anything about the Melbourne market. What suburb? What house type? Around what schools? If he was recommending we invest in a different state, in a market we know nothing about, I would have loved some advice on what property to invest in. I kinda thought that’s what we were paying a ‘Qualified Property Investment Advisor’ for, but I guess not.6 months after we engaged Empower Wealth, we got an email saying out adviser had left, and we had a new one. We never got an email from the new advisor. Actually, we’ve never received an email from Empower Wealth after we paid them (other than marketing emails). It’s been > 4 years - no follow up, no check in on whether we achieved our goals.After being initially so excited to sign up to Ben and Bryce’s company, we felt like fools. We paid $5K to be told ‘buy a house somewhere you like in Melbourne’. And we didn’t get any advice on the market we wanted to buy in. I genuinely have no idea what we paid for. Perhaps the advisor we got wasn’t great? Perhaps my expectations of what a property investment advisor does were wrong? I’m so confused what this company is even about. I tell all my medical and nursing colleagues to stay away.To finish, we bought a beautiful north-facing house in a blue-chip suburb in Brisbane, that we found on our own, that we love. The growth in Brisbane over the last 4 years has been better than Melbourne. I deleted the podcast and the Empower Wealth portal, and I’ve learned an expensive lesion to not give my money to an advisor ever again.

My situation was as a rental tenant, the owners selling the flat I was living in, and me wanting to buy it. I had contacted the owners directly, but they had already engaged a selling agent. I did not feel confident in dealing with an agent, not knowing really how the real estate market works, and also had enough on my hands just organising my home loan.I had Zach Dunbar (via a recommendation from a friend of a friend) advocating for me, contracted to do the negotiations between the selling agent. He was very diligent, enthusiastic, and also very supportive, patient and helpful, explaining everything clearly as the process went on.I consider his fee as money well worth spent. We ended up with me not having to stress at all about the negotiations side of everything, and I got my home loan done. I had asked him to negotiate for what would be a fair price that all parties would be happy with, and that's where we ended up. I've been very happy with Zach's assistance through a somewhat difficult time for me.

We had an incredible experience with Property Home Base when we were looking for an interstate investment property in Melbourne which will in time become a primary place of residence. Having received a lump sum settlement and on the same day discovering two appealing properties online, I contacted PHB early the following morning.Due to both the properties having their first open inspections THAT DAY, I contacted Julie at PHB who was confident that they could attend both inspections on our behalf.The fee for this was minimal and the assistance we have received from PHB has been exceptional!Both properties were inspected by Kate at PHB, thoroughly researched, and the decision to make an offer on one of them was guided by their expertise (and not by our biases, thank goodness!!).We had a contract of sale in place within days, a mortgage broker recommendation (who have also been excellent) and prompt referrals to a both building inspector and a conveyancer.It was seamless doing a huge transaction such as buying a property when in another state (Queensland) and we have since viewed the property in real life and absolutely love it.Julie and Kate were amazing with their knowledge of the local market and we very much appreciated their "check-ins" along the way (especially as this all took place over the Christmas/New Year period!).We have told Julie on a number of occasions that we could not have purchased this property without PHB. I had attended a free seminar at Property Home Base 5 or so years ago and always kept it in mind. The presentation then was impressive, and 5 years later when I engaged the services I am an extremely happy customer. I had found a property I REALLY wanted after months of searching and I URGENTLY needed help. Kate Sutherland took my initial call the day of my enquiry (even during the holiday period) and was extremely helpful. I engaged the services after finding myself lost in the process and Jo-Anne Davies was appointed to me right away. Jo-Anne was incredible the entire process and got to work the moment of engagement. She visited the property the next day, guided me through the offer process, giving expert advice in every step. She was available all the time and kept me updated on every little step we took. Over the years we’ve bought and sold a few properties, both for living in and as investments. We’d always done everything ourselves, even the conveyancing! But the property environment has changed. We’re finding it more complex. We engaged Julie DeBondt at Property Home Base to help us identify suitable properties. Julie had far more access to what was on the market than we ever could have found through the usual websites. Julie listened to our needs and requirements, stepped us through the pros and cons, and was not afraid of giving us blunt advice. We’d lost out on a few houses at auctions and were feeling like we’d never land a home. We decided to try a buyer’s advocate to increase our chances of being successful, and to hopefully save us money and ensure we didn’t overpay without realising the true value of a property. We had found the house we desperately wanted to call home. I called Zach and within 24 hours he’d done his research, valued and property, reached out to the agent and put together a plan of attack to help us secure the property. Secure it we did, within 48 hours from first making contact with Zach, and for so much less than we would have paid if we’d done this on our own. I was recommended to Julie by my mortgage broker. I had heard a little bit about buyer’s agents from a friend who had used someone else in the past. As a first home buyer, Julie helped me understand the process, negotiated price and dealt with real estate agents on my behalf. She listened to any concerns I had and provided great advice. In under 6 months, I’ve managed to secure an apartment for myself at a great price! After reading Cate and Pete's book I gained a greater insight into property, goal setting, calculating returns and what is a buy right approach. After reading this book I wanted to learn more, I read Cate's book; 48 Real life property adventures. This was seriously one of the better property books I've read! There are so many nuggets of gold, from understanding agent lingo, PPOR vs investment, auction and negotiation strategies, mistakes to watch out for and SO much more. The 48 case studies made for such an easy and interesting read and each story gave something different. I highly recommend you won't be disappointed with either book :)! Big thanks to Cate for organising a paperback for me to read over my summer break too. 5/5 stars!
